Spirituality is Not A Thing to Accumulate
So much of what calls itself spirituality these days tends to be an additive, accumulative endeavor. We are told that in order to be who we truly are, we must first accumulate certain “spiritual” things.
“I’m gonna accumulate aligned chakras, whatever those are. I’m gonna accumulate love and light peace and happiness. I’m gonna accumulate a soulmate/a new career/fame/fortune. I’m even gonna accumulate enlightenment, whatever that is, whenever I get around to it!”
There is nothing inherently wrong with the energy of accumulation. It’s totally harmless to accumulate things, if you’re into accumulating things. It’s not an existential crime to accumulate. But don’t mistake the accumulation of things -even rarified, shiny, “spiritual” things like enlightenment or love- for the process of waking up to reality.
True awakening robs you blind of all things. It is not an accumulation. It cannot be added onto you. You lose the ability to find yourself in things whenever you catch glimpses of the awakened mode of being. And the more you wake up, the more you see that you are not a thing, and therefore more things will never truly satisfy what you truly are.
This doesn’t mean that when you wake up and stop trying to find yourself in the accumulation of things you’ll lose the motivation to have your house, your car, and your xbox, or even make purchases for things in the future, or enjoy material possessions while they are here. Awake or not, we have a physical reality to contend with. It means that the motivation to accumulate more than what you currently have is seen to be something you are unnecessarily and unconsciously adding onto the experience of this moment. It’s a belief, and like all beliefs, it is inherently empty of ultimate reality. You have mistaken accumulation of objects for the silent joy of being, prior to your accumulations and conceptual additions upon this moment.
The entire world of accumulation and things is nothing more than a game that consciousness chooses to play with itself before it wakes up and realizes what it truly is and what truly matters: who you are before every thing was added onto you.
Nothing that you accumulate can give you the truth of your being. Rest in the absence of accumulation, and find eternal Presence, who you are before you can even add a single thing to you.
