What You Fight, You Become
When you fight with what you hate, it’s only a matter of time before you become that which you hate.
When you fight with the hypocrisy that you notice in others, it’s only a matter of time before you find yourself acting in an insufferably hypocritical manner.
When you fight with the insanity of the world, it’s only a matter of time before you become a mirror image of it.
What would happen if you chose to face the monstrosity of this suffering world (as it appears to you in this moment) fully, completely, and totally, without trying to change it or make it different in any way? What would happen if you put down your weapons against what is currently happening and just faced it openly, simply, and sincerely, without any expectation that this action will make it change? It might seem impossible to you at this moment, but just consider: what would this moment be like if you had absolutely nothing to struggle for or against?
What I am suggesting will sound totally asinine and stupid to many people alive on this planet right now. You might even be one of them (Hey there! No judgement. This post probably isn’t for you at this time. No hard feelings.). Many people believe that if they were to stop fighting with life, things would just get worse and worse. They feel that they are letting down those who have been victims of insanity if they’re not fighting for some sort of grand retributive outcome. But the fact remains: no amount of fighting with life will ever produce real, lasting, meaningful peace or happiness to yourself or others. And deep down, we all know this, even if we are not in a place to honestly admit it. On top of it all, your fight with life will eventually completely deplete you, leaving you with no vital energy to be a force of benevolence and peace right here, right now, the only place where one CAN be peaceful and benevolent.
Perhaps you are not like those who think that fighting is the only way out of this mess that humanity finds itself in. Maybe, as you consider these words, an internal recognition lights up that innately sees the futility of fighting with the world as it appears to us moment after moment. You may feel like you’re surrounded by people who have no interest in anything other than a rabid destruction of everything wrong with the world. You may feel like you’re the only one in your area who is entirely uninterested in all of that. But you are not the only one. There are many other human beings on this planet who are waking up to the futility of struggling against life’s present manifestation. And know this:
The more you find the courage to give up your argument with life as it appears in this moment, the more peace you will bring to this suffering planet, including to all of us who are still innocently believing that the only way to peace is via the means of war. Don’t fight with them, either. That’s just more of the same.
The greatest contribution you can make to the wellbeing of this (seemingly) hellish planet we find ourself on is to be an open space of peace, or in other words: one who longer fights against what is to get to what is not. Many people will tell you that’s nonsense. Forgive them. They are suffering more than you could ever know.
When you cease fighting with what you hate, you transmute what you hate into peace.
When you cease fighting with the hypocrisy you notice in others, hypocrisy has no power over you.
When you cease fighting with the insanity of the world, you bring forth sanity to the world.
When you cease fighting with the way things are, you become who you truly are.
Peace, peace, peace. May all human beings be at peace. Now, now, now, always only now.
